Step-by-Step Guide

#01 // Ensure DMARC is set up

  1. Sign DKIM with your own sending domain
    Note: You cannot use WordFly.com
  2. Check your DMARC configuration
Verify that your domain has a DMARC record with a policy of `quarantine` or `reject`. You cannot use `none.` There are various online tools to check your DMARC configuration such as MxToolbox.
  3. Update DNS records
Update your DNS records to include a DMARC policy which identifies your logo. Your DMARC record should look something like this:

    _dmarc.example.com. IN TXT "v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc-reports@example.com"

#02 // Prepare your SVG logo

  1. SVG format
Ensure your logo is in SVG format. The SVG file must meet the BIMI SVG specifications, including being square and having a solid background.
  2. Host the SVG file
Upload your SVG logo to a secure server. Make note of the URL where your logo is hosted.

#03 // Obtain a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC)

  1. Select a certification authority
Choose a trusted certification authority (e.g., DigiCert, Entrust) to issue your VMC.
  2. Apply for VMC
Follow the certification authority’s process to apply for a VMC. This process typically involves verifying your organization and the ownership of your logo.
  3. Receive VMC
Once issued, you will receive a VMC file. Keep this file secure as you will need it for the next steps.

#04 // Add BIMI record to DNS

  1. Access DNS settings
Log in to your domain registrar or DNS hosting provider and access the DNS settings for your domain.
  2. Create BIMI record
Add a new TXT record for BIMI. The record should look something like this:

    default._bimi.example.com. IN TXT "v=BIMI1; l=https://example.com/path/to/your/logo.svg; a=https://example.com/path/to/your/vmc.pem"
    • `l` is the URL to your SVG logo
    • `a` is the URL to your VMC file
  3. Save changes
    Save the new DNS record.

#05 // Verify BIMI implementation

  1. Use online tools
Utilize online tools to check your BIMI setup. These tools can validate whether your BIMI record is correctly configured and recognized.
  2. Monitor email deliverability
After setting up BIMI, monitor your email deliverability and the display of your logo in recipients’ inboxes.
