How it works
Building an email list full of engaged and loyal fans is one of the best things you can do for your business. Every website should have some form of email signup to stay connected with customers. WordFly has multiple signup options.
What you can do
- To collect preferences at signup, drag over a Preferences block. You can even have multiple preference blocks for more flexibility, for example adding an additional section to only collect info about frequency preferences.
- To collect more info about your subscribers, you can add as many Text Fields as you need. Just drag over a Text Field block and map it to one of your existing data fields.
- Use the Embed Code option to add the subscribe form to your website. This single email field takes subscribers to the full Subscribe page where they can provide more details and preferences.
- Click the Lightbox tab to create a pop-up signup form that you can include on your website.
- For advanced lightbox flexibility, we also provide a JavaScript function. With this script, you decide how and when the lightbox displays, match the button style from your website, or use an image for a button instead.
Customize your subscribe pages
- Set up new preferences in Subscribers > Preferences, if needed
- Go to Pages > Subscribe

Select the list you would like to add addresses to
We suggest creating a new list called something like “Website Signups”. -
Customize the confirmation email
This is a plain-text email that is sent to the subscriber immediately following their subscribe process. Every part of the email is editable. The only required element is the data field ##LINK## which must be present to save the page. -
In the form, add fields for the subscriber information you would like to collect. Drag over a Preferences block if desired.
Email address will always be added by default and will be required. The preferences block will pull in the preferences you have set up under Subscribe > Preferences. -
Update your logo. Customize your content and colors.
Here are some common design adjustments you may want to make. - Click Publish

Click the Use as Default button
Once selected, any new emails created from a WordFly starter email will point to the new pages. It will also switch the Add Link UI in the editor to point to your new pages. Update any existing custom starter emails with the new link.
Add the Subscribe link to your website or email
The Subscribe URL does not need the `?sid=##subscriberMailingId##` tag. Once the subscribe pages are live on your website any new sign-ups will go into the list you assigned for the subscribe page. Subscribers already signed up on this list they will appear as a duplicate import, but even if a subscriber is a duplicate WordFly will save any preference changes on their record during a subsequent sign up.
- On the Subscribe Settings page, click Publish to push your pages live to the web
- Copy the Public URL and use it on your website or any other location where you want to collect new subscribers.
CRM considerations
If I use a CRM to manage my subscribers, which email signup form should I use?
When possible, it’s better to use a signup form that sends new signups into your CRM. For example, our Tessitura- and Centaman-integrated customers should consider an integrated email signup form. This would be custom built by your in-house website development teams with the appropriate API calls back to your CRM database. This is the best approach because it creates an account in your CRM system for the subscriber. Subscriber management is easier when you keep all the relationship management within one system.
Considerations for using both the WordFly subscribe form and a CRM-integrated signup form:
- Emails go directly into WordFly, no integration in CRM
- Requires sending separate emails to WordFly sign up list and CRM list. Segmentation would be required to ensure you are suppressing subscribers from receiving emails twice across both emails subscribers in two databases. Extra effort for CRM integrated users.
- The primary purpose of the WordFly subscribe form would be to give an easy signup for individuals interested in a weekly update but probably not membership information
- The WordFly subscription does not go back to your CRM; however accounts can become sync'd once a record is created in the CRM with the same email address.
- Added bonus for Tessitura-integrated customers: WordFly can send preference updates back to Tessitura from the subscribe page when there is a customer number (CrmSubscriberID) already logged in WordFly for the subscriber record. Organizations must be using our preferences integration for this to happen.
