Ready to send your first SMS campaign with WordFly? Following these steps will ensure that your numbers are valid SMS phone numbers, establish your organization’s reputation, and set you up for successful deliverability.
The purpose of WordFly Phone Number Validation (covered in steps 1-3) is to validate all existing phone numbers that you expect to send to in the future. We work with mobile carriers to determine which imported numbers are valid and active mobile numbers. A one-time phone number validation cost of $0.01 per successfully imported number will appear on your next invoice.
Note About Opt-In / Consent
For legacy numbers collected before SMS was enabled in WordFly, explicit SMS opt-in is not required. Providing a mobile number as part of an existing business relationship (purchase, membership, donation, account creation, etc.) is sufficient legal basis to send an initial message that includes a compliant opt-out.
For newly collected phone numbers, explicit SMS consent is required. Any numbers gathered after you enable WordFly SMS must come through a form that enforces proper number formatting (including a country code) and includes clear SMS consent language.
Step 1: Upload your list of phone numbers to WordFly
Import the list of all mobile phone numbers you want to send to into this list in your account:
Go to Subscribers > SMS Lists > WordFly Phone Number Validation
Be careful to only use this list. If you don’t use this list, we cannot validate your phone numbers and successfully send your SMS campaigns.
- Valid SMS numbers must start with the country code (i.e. +1, +44, +61)
- Valid SMS numbers must 15 digits or less
- Spaces, dashes, and plus signs are OK. When numbers are imported into WordFly, we remove all non-numeric characters.
A few examples of valid formats
+1 xxx xxx xxxx / +1xxxxxxxxxx / 1 xxx-xxx-xxxx
As you import, WordFly will do an initial high-level validation of the numbers.
Improperly formatted numbers will be filtered out (e.g., missing country codes), as well as numbers originating in countries that do not support 10DLC (USA) or ASID (EU, UK, APAC)
Filtered out numbers will appear in the list’s Invalid SMS Numbers tab. You can export these numbers by going to More list actions > Export import issues. If needed, correct the numbers in the file or your CRM and reimport.
Step 2: Let us know when your numbers have been imported
Reply to your SMS onboarding ticket and let our support team know your phone numbers are ready for the next validation step.
Step 3: Validation by Team WordFly
Our team will take it from here. We’ll complete additional validation and verify that each imported number is a valid, active mobile number (confirmed with carriers).
A one-time phone number validation cost of $0.01 per successfully imported number will appear on your next invoice.
When your phone number validation is complete, we'll let you know and provide you with the results so you can update your CRM accordingly.
Step 4: Schedule a quick check-in
Before you send your first campaign, schedule a short meeting with you to review your SMS account setup and confirm your payment plan. You won’t be able to send a campaign until this step is complete.
Step 5: Send your first message
If you’re using a brand-new number, your first SMS campaign message must include the following information. Set expectations, be honest, and be clear.
- Your organization name
- Why you are contacting them, especially if it’s the first time
- How frequently you plan to send messages
- Opt-out instructions
- A notice that message and data rates apply
Example:
McTommerson Center: Welcome & thank you for attending recent shows. We text occasionally about tickets & events. Msg & data rates apply. Reply STOP to opt-out.
This ensures compliance and gives your subscribers the chance to manage their preferences. If you have already gained opt-in via another SMS vendor, you can likely skip this step.
You’re all set! Once your numbers are validated and your account is set up, you can start sending SMS campaigns alongside your email campaigns in WordFly.
