Getting started

WordFly SMS requires a few steps to enable. There is a $250.00 USD startup fee that covers configurations. Once we have your request, we require five business days to complete the configuration.

  • Email WordFly Support to get started
We will enable SMS for your account.
  • Confirm users
Let us know who should have access to create and send SMS messages from your account.
  • Provide a mobile number for testing
We’ll send a test message to this number when your account is configured.
  • Tell us your Alphanumeric Sender ID (also know as Short Name)
This will be your SMS “from name”. It appears when subscribers receive messages from you. You might consider matching it to a social handle name.

Requirements: Max. 11 characters, alphanumeric, no spaces. You must also provide proof that you are entitled to use this ID. (See next section)

Sender ID registration

Australia’s Scam Code requires Sender ID registration to help ensure that Australian consumers are safe from fraud and that messages are not blocked.

Our support team will send you a file to gather the information that is required for us to register your Sender ID on your behalf.

As part of the form, you must provide a link to prove that you are entitled to use the Alphanumeric Sender ID in the form of a Business Registration License. Examples include:

  • Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN)
  • Indigenous Corporation Number (ICN)
  • Corporate Registration in the country in which you are incorporated

SMS unsubscribe and privacy guidelines

There are several main pieces of legislation covering the use of SMS in Australia:

What you need to know

  • All commercial electronic messages (CEMs) must have consent to be sent to subscribers.
  • All CEMs are required to provide sender identification.
  • All CEMs must have a functional unsubscribe mechanism.

*The unsubscribe: must remain functional for at least 30 days, must be sent to the organization sending the message, must be clear and conspicuous, the subscriber must be removed within 5 business days, must be at low cost or no cost to the subscriber.

Download the Office of Australian Information Commissioner’s interaction between privacy act and spam act to review practical application of both laws in terms of your SMS marketing.
