Send an SMS campaign

Learn what to expect and how to send SMS in WordFly.

 

SMS basics

  • SMS must be enabled in your WordFly account. All people working on SMS campaigns need to have both SMS and Subscriber permissions.
  • SMS messages can contain up to 160 characters. Use our Add link tool to create unique trackable short URLs for each subscriber.
  • Personalization (First Name, etc.) can be added and previewed before sending.
  • SMS clicks and bounces can be viewed after the campaign is sent.
  • Reply service is not supported. Replies do not deliver to the sender or receive an auto-response.
  • SMS numbers must contain valid numbers with country codes included. Numbers may contain +, spaces, and dashes

    Examples of accepted SMS formats with UK country code 44:

Send an SMS campaign

 

  1. Go to SMS > Create a campaign




  2. On the Settings tab, fill in your SMS campaign name
    Give your campaign a name and select a Label to organize your SMS campaigns. Enable Google Analytics and Source Number tracking by checking the appropriate boxes.




  3. On the Message tab, enter your SMS message in the mobile phone window



    If needed, use Options to add personalization, links, and special characters.



    Add data field
    Click to insert First Name and any other personalization to your SMS message. Enter your alternate in the section “If missing, write”, this will display when the data is missing. Set a limit for your characters to ensure the data inserted from your list does not exceed the character limit.

    Add link
    To include a link in your message, use our tool to create a shortened link. Enter your link in the Enter URL field. Include http:// or https:// in the field. When sent, the link will convert to a tracked short URL for each subscriber.

    Note: Pre-shortened links from other URL shortening services will not be tracked.

    Click to insert special characters in your SMS message.


  4. On the Subscribers tab, select a list to send your SMS message to
    Import a list from your CRM or add subscribers manually by copy/pasting mobile numbers (with country codes) into an open field.

    When importing your SMS list:
    • Map your mobile number field to the SMS Number in the WordFly Fields column.
    • Do not map the email address field during this import (if possible, omit email address from your list data file).





  5. On the Testing tab, test your SMS message.
    Enter your mobile number (including area code), and click Send a Test. Use Subscriber Preview to see how your data fields populate in the SMS message.


  6. On the Send tab, finish your SMS details by telling WordFly when to send your message.
    Select Now will send the SMS immediately. Select In the future to schedule your SMS to send at another time.




  7. Review your sent SMS Campaign
    Watch your SMS message come through on a mobile device. The message will come from your short name. Your short name is the alphanumeric name (up to 11 characters) we assign to you when we set up SMS for your account.

    Click View complete results to see your SMS reporting.
