Promotion attributes are essential for tracking email response data to constituent records in Tessitura. Before importing your list into WordFly, you’ll need to create proper appeals, media types, and source groups in Tessitura for promoting your lists.

About promotion attributes

When a Tessitura List Manager list or Extraction is generated with promotion attributes, a promotion is created in Tessitura. Promotion rows are created in the database along with a unique source number and download number. The promotion rows will populate with any email response data that is sent back to Tessitura from the WordFly email campaign using that promoted list.

Promoting your list ensures that your email response data will update as expected in Tessitura. WordFly will send the highest level responses to T_PROMOTION and all responses to T_EPROMOTION_RESPONSE_HISTORY, then your LP_UPDATE_EMAIL_PROMOTION stored local procedure to update responses in Tessitura.

For List Manager lists, appeals and other promotion attributes are selected in WordFly during the List Manager list import process.

For Extractions, appeals are selected when defining the Extraction Details in Tessitura.

Appeals

An appeal in Tessitura is the definition of what the email communication is all about. For example, an appeal might be your “Monthly eNewsletter” or “QuarterlyMagazine”. An appeal may also be connected to a specific solicitation or call to action which involves a purchase. For example, “Membership Renewals 2022” would be a yearly appeal for membership renewals. Appeals can help you categorize your marketing efforts and improve reporting and analysis in Tessitura.

Appeals need to be available to WordFly to appear in the List Manager list UI or for Extractions to appear in WordFly. Be sure to:

  • Select the appropriate control group for the appeal
For license holders, the control group will typically be the default control group. For consortiums, the control group will be your organization control group.

In Tessitura, follow these steps to create an appeal that is available to WordFly.

1. Select GoTo > Campaigns

2. Then select Campaigns > Appeals

3. Click New

4. Enter the information for your appeal

The control group selected must be available to WordFly.

5. Click Close

6. Click Yes from the Save pop-up window

Now your appeal should be created. If you are importing a List Manager list into WordFly, your appeal is now available in WordFly.

Media types

A media type in Tessitura is used to record the type of media used for an advertising effort and helps connect costs related to that media. Most organizations will create a media type for Email and select this for list promoting.

Media types need to be available to WordFly to appear in the List Manager list UI or for Extractions to appear in WordFly. Be sure to:

  • Select the appropriate control group for the media type
For license holders, the control group will typically be the default control group. For consortiums, the control group will be your organization control group.

In Tessitura, follow these steps to create a media type that is available to WordFly.

1. Select GoTo > Campaigns

2. Then select Campaigns > References

3. Click Add

4. Enter the information for your media type

The control group selected must be available to WordFly.

5. Navigate away to another screen to click Save

Now your media type should be created. If you are importing a List Manager list into WordFly, your media type is now available in WordFly.

Source groups

A source group defines the group of people the advertising effort is for and it is used to group sources within an appeal for a report. When considering what source group values to add, review your appeal setup.

In Tessitura, follow these steps to create a source group that is available to WordFly.

1. Select GoTo > Campaigns

2. Then select Campaigns > References

3. Click the Source Group tab

4. Click Add

5. Enter the information for your source group

6. Navigate away to another screen to select Save

Now your source group should be created. If you are importing a List Manager list into WordFly, your source group is now available in WordFly.
